April 2, 2007 - Students from area high schools and middle schools showcased their works in various media at the Museum of the Moving Image. During the New York Youth Media Arts Show. Students showcased their creations in film, video, photography, and computer multi-media on Thursday, March 15.
Dr. Eric Heyworth, Director of the N.Y. Youth Media Arts Show said “you’ve heard of the proverbial three R’s. Perhaps today’s fourth R is recording, using media tools to communicate a spectrum of expressions. As you can imagine, all the subjects they’ve learned throughout school are vigorously strengthened in the process of creative media production. Here is educational motivation at its finest.”
At the Show, students projected their media creations in the museum’s auditorium; toured the pioneering exhibits of the media arts at the museum; and received a pep talk from popular media artists, such as Spike Lee, LL Cool J, anchors from New York’s news stations, and pioneers of animation. This year's guests included two reporters from New York One.
Students also visited the Kaufman-Astoria production areas. Some of the students will be offered the opportunity to attend the four week summer program, the NY State Summer School of Media Arts at Ithaca College, a summer programs that is open to all New York State students currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12 and who qualify through the audition process.
It also focuses on in the cutting-edge fields of video, filmmaking, photography, or computer graphic arts. For more information on this program, contact Heyworth at ERICVCR@ AOL.com
