April 1, 2005 – The “Made in NY” production Mad Hot Ballroom, which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in January, has been purchased by Paramount Classics and will release this May. The film tells the story of a diverse group of eleven year old New York City children learning about life and ballroom dancing. It shot exclusively in New York City and will proudly display the “Made in NY” logo in its end credits.
“Being a lifetime New Yorker, I jumped at the chance to create a film that would be a love poem to New York,” Director Marilyn Agrelo said. “This is a story that is unique to our city and for me: the always present urban backdrop embodied a main character. My aim was to create portraits of the city within the film, always reminding the audience of the rich and diverse landscape in which these kids live.”
Stay tuned for “Mad Hot” in May!
