Mayor Bloomberg, in between takes with the stars of Law & Order in the Blue Room at City Hall.
March 30, 2004 The producers of Law & Order have something in common with New Yorkers: they cast the same star as Mayor of New York City.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg recently played himself on two scenes of an upcoming episode of the series, discussing the fictional murder of an Assistant District Attorney. The Mayor's primetime debut was filmed in the Blue Room of City Hall, where he regularly holds press conferences, marking the first time Law & Order gained access to City Hall for production.
Although he may be a first-time actor, Mayor Bloomberg clearly brought a bit of experience to the job: he finished his scenes ahead of schedule. Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting said, "The Mayor's role on Law & Order involved doing what he does best - hitting his marks as the Mayor of New York City. Who knows? Maybe he'll make an encore performance in the fourth Law & Order, coming soon."
Law & Order, the longest-running television drama on the air, has been produced in New York City for the last fourteen years. During that period, it has contributed over $650 million to the local economy and provided over 10,516 days of work for New York City actors.
Union rules require the show to pay the Mayor $678, which he will donate to the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
Mayor Bloomberg's appearance is scheduled to hit the airwaves on March 31.
