March 3, 2008 - Showcasing the best in New York City’s local neighborhoods, “Cool in Your Code” is among NYC TV’s numerous New York Emmy nominations. “Cool in Your Code” has received six nominations, including a nomination for one of the program’s hosts, Hank Wasiak.

Along with his other duties as executive producer, Wasiak hosts “Back on the Block,” in which he interviews local celebrities and takes them back to the neighborhoods where they grew up and the areas that shaped their careers. As part of the series, Wasiak interviewed famed character actor and Brooklyn native Eli Wallach. Their memorable conversation, which took place at Sardi’s, is nominated for an Emmy.

“We spent almost four hours talking about his life from Brooklyn through the present,” Wasiak remembered. “His love of his family, his craft, and New York City was apparent through all of it. When we wrapped and took off the microphones, all of us, the crew, myself, and the staff at Sardi’s who were watching, gave Eli a standing ovation.”

Wasiak feels incredibly lucky to be able to work on “Back on the Block.” “Without fail [the show] always results in an incredibly powerful and emotional experience,” said Wasiak. “Once we go out of the studio, on to the streets, into places and neighborhoods that shaped these celebrities’ lives, amazing things happen. It's almost like the city takes over.”

In 2006, Wasiak won a New York Emmy Award for Best Host. This year, “Cool in Your Code” is also nominated for arts, entertainment, children, and magazine program.
