March 1, 2006 – The "Made in NY" production A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints enjoyed its time in the sun at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where Dito Montiel took home the Dramatic Directing Award for the film, which also received a Special Jury Prize for best ensemble performance. The film, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Rosario Dawson, tells the coming of age story of a boy growing up in Queens in the 1980’s who believes he is saved from choosing the wrong path by various saints.

Commissioner Katherine Oliver attended the festival, where she met with independent producers from around the world to pitch New York City, the capital of independent filmmaking in the United States, for their next projects. The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting congratulates A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints as well as the City’s entire lineup at the festival.
