March 1, 2006 – On February 27, the first cycle of the "Made in NY" training program began preparing New Yorkers for careers as production assistants. The free, full-time, one-month program is designed to provide New Yorkers with training for entry-level positions in production, provide production assistants with access to employment opportunities, encourage diversity within the City’s entertainment production workforce, and provide an additional incentive for attracting new production to New York City. Graduates of the program will learn skills including set etiquette, types of production, departments and crew roles, set safety, location, vehicle and office skills, sourcing equipment and how to work with the City.
The graduates will be available for hiring beginning on March 25, 2006. If you are interested in hiring a production assistant who has successfully completed the program, or if you are interested in participating by speaking on a panel or teaching a session of the program, please contact Tracy Anderson at Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, at tanderson@fifthave.org.
