Spiderman shoots in Union Square. The film is one of the movies that will be screened in the MoMA series.
March 1, 2006 – This spring, the Friday Night at the Movies program for high school students at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will present a series of films shot in New York City, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. The series will feature screenings of King Kong on April 7, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three on April 28, Spider-Man on May 5, Do the Right Thing on May 12, The Fisher King on May 19, and Mad Hot Ballroom on May 26. The screenings take place at the MoMA’s Titus 2 theatre at 11 West 53 Street, and provide an opportunity for students to watch films and speak to directors, producers, screenwriters, location scouts, and more, learning the secrets behind Spider-Man’s stunts, how traffic is rerouted through Times Square for a film shoot, and what a director really does. Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, will speak at the King Kong screening.
All screenings are free, and pre-registration is not required. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only high school students are admitted, no groups are admitted, and students must bring valid, school-issued ID. Pizza and refreshments will be served.
