January 9, 2009 - In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the year of the Ox, Soul of Shaolin is the new Chinese martial arts spectacular featuring breathtaking displays of martial arts. Playing for a limited engagement of twenty-four performances at the Marquis Theatre, Soul of Shaolin marks the first time a production from the People’s Republic of China has appeared on Broadway.

Featuring a cast of thirty-three Chinese nationals, Soul of Shaolin tells the story of a boy named Hui Guang, who is separated from his mother by war and found by the legendary monks of the Shaolin temple. Raised among them, he grows into an accomplished master of Shaolin Kung Fu and embarks on a magnificent journey of self-discovery.

Shaolin Kung Fu is the collection of martial arts associated with the monks of the Shaolin temple in China’s Henan province, a style characterized by amazing feats of physical strength and agility, tempered with the monks’ philosophical belief in training the mind, body, and Soul.

Nederlander Worldwide Productions and The Eastern Shanghai Cultural Film and Television Group have partnered to present this production, which has appeared in Sydney, Macau, and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Performances run January 13-31.
