Reel 13 Looks for the Secret in January

January 6, 2009 - REEL13, Thirteen’s weekly Saturday night film series, features a New York-based film that captures a glimpse of the bohemian life in 1940s Greenwich Village.

Based on the true accounts of New Yorker writer Joe Mitchell and his friendship with the eccentric, self imposed vagabond Joe Gould, Joe Gould’s Secret, premiering Saturday, January 31 at 12:20 am, uncovers the mystery surrounding Gould who claims to have written an oral history of the world. Taking place in Greenwich Village, the film stars New York native Stanley Tucci as Mitchell and features old time city staples such as The Raven Poetry Society, of which E.E. Cummings was a member.

Also in January, REEL 13 celebrates its first birthday with special interviews featuring Brooklyn native Martin Landau for his appearance in North by Northwest (Jan 10 at 9 pm) and Chelsea resident Debbie Harry for her appearance in My Life Without Me (Jan 10 at 11:25 pm).

REEL 13 is Thirteen’s weekly movie showcase for classic, short and independent films. Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Classic Film hosted by Neal Gabler, followed by a Short Film selected by visitors to Reel13.org who vote for their favorite of three Short Films every week. The evening ends with an Indie Film, hosted by Richard Peña, Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. If you are a filmmaker and would like your short film to be considered for selection, go to Reel13.org to upload your film.
