January 2, 2008 - Everything was coming up roses for the 2006-2007 Broadway season as the dozens of plays and musicals that line the Great White Way collectively sold 12.3 million tickets, the largest number of admissions in recorded history. The statistics were gathered in a recent study compiled by the League of American Theatres and Producers, now known as the Broadway League.

By the numbers:

5: number of shows the average Broadway theatergoer attended in the past year

32: Broadway shows already on stage

38: new productions that premiered in the 2006-2007 season

41.2: average age of a theatergoer

46: percentage of theatergoers who attended a show because of word-of-mouth, the leading influence in show selection

64: percentage of audience members who were female

65: percentage of tickets purchased during the season by tourists

368: percentage of increase in the use of the internet to purchase tickets

1.42 million: theatergoers under the age of eighteen
