The Stepford Wives
The Stepford Wives was released in theatres by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 2004. The film is a remake of the 1975 suspense classic that starred Katherine Ross.
The production began shooting in New York City in May of 2003, and were in the City again doing re-shoots as late as May of 2004, just a month before the film's release.
The film shot approximately 140 days in New York, including 22 days on location in Manhattan. They also shot on location in Connecticut and New Jersey.
Although the bulk of the film was shot on a soundstage inside of Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, the film crew also visited these unique locations:
· Good Morning America @ 44th & Broadway
· Inside CNN's offices in the Time Warner building
· Broadway Stages in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
· At Park Avenue & 40th Street, where they employed 100 extras for a crane shot of actors crossing an intersection.
The cast and filmmakers have great history in making films in New York:
· Nicole Kidman has spent a lot of time filming in NYC - she just wrapped filming The Interpreter with Sean Penn & Sydney Pollack, in 2003 she was here filming Birth for Focus Films, and starred in The Hours - which also filmed here in the City.
· Christopher Walken is has been in town recently filming the new John Turturro film, Romance & Cigarettes. Also in his lengthy roster of films is King of New York, shot here entirely in 1990 and Next Stop, Greenwich Village filmed here in 1976.
· Bette Midler spent lots of time here in 1996 filming The First Wives Club.
· Matthew Broderick is a proud New Yorker - having starred in the 2001 Tony Award winning musical The Producers.
· Executive Producer, Ron Bozman also produced Changing Lanes, Autumn in New York and The Manhattan Project all here in NYC.
· Producer Scott Rudin also produced The Manchurian Candidate - which filmed here in the City over the past year & will was released in July, 2004. A veteran NYC filmmaker, he also produced School of Rock, Changing Lanes, The Royal Tenenbaums and The First Wives Club.
