The Door in the Floor
The Door in the Floor was released in theatres by Focus Features Wednesday, July 14th, 2004.
This majority of the film takes place in the Hamptons, and while much of the production was shot there, the filmmakers did shoot a portion of it in New York City. Filming took place during the summer of 2003.
The NYC locations included:
· The Harrison Restaurant located @ 355 Greenwich Street
· The Screening Room @ Varick Street and Canal Streets
· A local Frame Shop @ 20th Street and 6th Avenue
The film stars Academy Award winner Kim Basinger and 4 time Academy Award Nominee Jeff Bridges. This is the first film that they have starred in together.
The film also stars a famous face in the New York entertainment world, Donna Murphy, who can be seen on the big screen next to Tobey Maguire in the summer 2004 blockbuster and box-office breaker Spider-Man 2 (she plays Doc Ock's beloved wife). Donna also stars in the Tony Award winning musical Wonderful Town, and has guest starred on New York's homegrown television show Law & Order.
The Door in the Floor is based on the best-selling novel, A Widow For One Year, by John Irving. This is his fifth novel to be translated into a major motion picture, the last being The Cider House Rules.
The director and screenwriter Tod Williams is a native of New York City, who worked as a stringer for the Los Angeles bureau of The New York Times before attending the American Film Institute.
Roger Marino is a co-executive producer on this film. Mr. Marino is one of the producers of the hit Broadway revival of Gypsy, starring Bernadette Peters.
