The Fireman's Fund and HUB International Northeast presented a $10,000 grant to the members of Engine 298/Ladder 127 on Sept. 3 at their quarters in Jamaica, Queens.

Grant funds will be used for the purchase of a laptop, digital camera and other equipment to be used for creating presentations for company drills which focus on response to locations in their coverage area. A forcible entry simulator, designed to train firefighters on how to open all types of doors, and a GPS navigation system to assist in responding to emergencies will also be purchased. Finally, grant funds have been allocated for the purchase of a treadmill to help ensure the physical fitness of the members of this house.

"Since 2006, Fireman's Fund has donated over $300,000 to the FDNY," said Division 13 Chief James DiDomenico. "Their generosity is greatly appreciated by the department."

"This grant enables our members to purchase great equipment that will benefit members of this great firehouse as well as the entire community," added Capt. Robert Fenty of Engine 298.

"We're very happy to support the kind of things that you do," said Terry McCormick, Business Development Manager of the Fireman's Fund.

Acknowledging the upcoming anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and how Fireman's Fund had offices in the South Tower that day, McCormick added: "This gives us an opportunity to say thank you for all you did. As we run out, you guys run in and that's something we'll never forget."
