Firefighters Compete in Cookoff

Firefighters competed in the first Fairway Firefighters Food Face-Off outside the store's Harlem location.
Manhattan firefighters competed in the first Fairway Firefighters Food Face-Off outside the supermarket’s Harlem store on Aug. 25.
Firefighters from four companies competed in the challenge, including Lieutenants John Smith and Billy Wall of Engine 47, Firefighters Brendan Hagan and Billy Oddo of Engine 69/Ladder 28, Firefighters Beau Hodges and Nick Foley of Engine 59/Ladder 30, and Firefighters Matt Crowley and Dillon Mussinan of Engine 80/Ladder 23.
The teams had to cook their best burgers, ribs and chicken for a panel of four judges.

Firefighters from Engine 47 took home first place honors.
First place honors, which included a Fairway gift card and a year’s supply of Figi water, went to the firefighters from Engine 47.
During the event, Fairway representatives announced an official FDNY Foundation shopping night on Sept. 30 - from 4 to 10 p.m., 10 percent of all sales will benefit the Foundation. The FDNY Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the New York City Fire Department, raises funds to benefit fire safety education and firefighter training.
