FDNY Lacrosse Team Plays NYPD, Raises Money for Charity

The FDNY’s lacrosse team played the NYPD team in the Lead the Way Lacrosse Day of Champions, a day of sport and remembrance on April 19 at Manhasset High School.
Although the FDNY lost the game, they raised $3,000 for the Lead the Way Fund, which raises money to support families of U.S. Army Rangers who have died, have been disabled or who currently are serving in harm’s way around the world.
The FDNY scored the first three goals of the game against the NYPD, but by the end of the first quarter the game was tied 3-3. By the end of the second quarter, NYPD was up by two, with a score of 5-7. As the third quarter came to a close, NYPD had a four-goal lead. The FDNY could not recover their early lead in the game, and lost to the NYPD with a final score of 10 - 13.
The Lead the Way Fund was created in honor of Sgt. James Regan-a Manhasset resident and avid lacrosse player- who was killed in Iraq in February 2007 while serving with the U.S. Army Rangers, an elite infantry of the Special Operations Command.
