FDNY Tips for Performing Better on Exams

Click the following button in the player below to expand the video to full screen:

Helpful Tips

Repetition

If something is repeated twice in class it's likely going to be on the test! Follow the steps you've practiced over and over. Allow information to become ingrained so that it flows naturally.

Visualization

Imagine yourself taking the exam. Make-up questions for yourself with various answers that are closely related. Review in your head.

Elimination

Eliminate the answers that you know are wrong by crossing them out. Usually exams in the Academy follow multiple choice or True/False format. Instructors usually ask for the correct or incorrect answer and you must focus on what the question is asking and eliminate answers you know are incorrect

Rest!

You must get plenty of rest the night before an exam. The process of exam taking is a long one that begins months in advance. By using these tips and following the study guide you will improve your chances of passing the exam.
