Firefighters battled a four-alarm fire resulting from a small plane crashing into a 50-story high-rise, multiple-dwelling on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The plane struck the building between the 40th and 41st floors and fire spread to floors above. More than 170 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the blaze that began at 2:42 p.m. Two fatalities were reported. Eighteen people were injured in the fire, including 14 firefighters, one police officer and three civilians. The reason for the crash is under investigation.
