The Office of Fire and Life Safety has relationships with a number of colleges with distance learning and on-line degree programs. Distance learning enables FDNY personnel to enroll in credit bearing college courses around the clock.

Bureau of Training - FDNY Fire Academy
The Bureau of Training and three other FDNY units operate at the New York City Fire Academy. The center is adjacent to 68 acres of parkland, an outdoor recreation area consisting of tennis courts; baseball, softball and soccer fields; and walking, jogging and cycling paths.

Started over 50 years ago the FDNY Photo Unit records history and events for the FDNY. The unit photographs fires, memorials, parades and other events that the Department is part of. Also within the Photo Unit community are galleries for viewing.
