The
Technical Rescue School instructs personnel belonging
to the Fire Department's five Rescue companies and seven
Squad companies. Personnel are trained in high angle
rope operations, confined space operations, building
collapse operations and heavy rigging operations. A
member is taken off the line for the 40-hours required
to complete this training.
All instructors are members of the Special Operations
Command and have distinctive skills. Additionally, they
complete the New York State approved course in Educational
Methodology. The school issues certifications from the
state Office of Fire Prevention and Control in all subject
areas. The school works closely with the New York State
Fire Academy in developing its on-going instructional
programs.
