KIDS CONNECTIONS - 9-11 Year Old Girls
The Kids Connection Program is excited to be
offering a group series for 9-11 year old girls who lost their
FDNY dad in the line of duty. The group series is designed
to create a fun and safe environment for your daughter to
connect with other girls like her, to celebrate her unique
attributes and talents, and have the opportunity to learn
how to navigate the challenges girls face in today’s
world.
Research has shown us that during adolescence, girls tend
to have lowered self-esteem and often lose touch with the
strong sense of themselves that they had as pre-teens. The
pre-teen years can be an important time to provide daughters
with the opportunity to recognize their strengths, feel comfortable
with themselves and learn to appreciate their unique qualities.
This reinforcement will better prepare them for the adolescent
years. We hope that Girls’ Chat Room will provide a
forum where your daughter will be encouraged to be herself
and have fun in the process!
Girls’ Chat Room is also recruiting older adolescent
girls who would like to volunteer to help run the group series.
This is a great way for older girls to serve as role models
to younger girls, share their own thoughts and feelings and
be part of a community service effort. Please let us know
if your daughter is interested in volunteering.
Please contact Kim Ahearn, Kid Connections Program Director
(212-570-1693 ext. 323), with any questions, concerns or to
sign your daughter up for the series.
