Support
Services for Children
Serving children in a therapeutic setting requires
specialized knowledge and different methods than those
used to serve adults. With that in mind, the CSU has
teamed with three specialized programs to provide
assessment and
support to children who have been having nightmares,
acting out at school, or just need someone to talk
to.
These programs work hand in hand with the FDNY to provide
quality care to our children.
The New York University Child Study Center (http://www.uri.edu/frp/frplink35.html)
provides services in the family home, at a CSU site, or
at NYU and makes contact to the child’s school setting
available as appropriate. This program is supported by
the Silver Shield and directed by Dr. Robin Goodman. For
more information or to schedule an appointment parents
can call (212) 263-8401.
The Columbia Family Assessment and Guidance Program,
under the direction of Dr. Grace Christ, provides assistance
and evaluation to families. Primarily offered in the family
home, the program collaborates with school personnel to
assist with grief and behavioral issues when appropriate.

The Columbia Presbyterian New York Cornell Weill
Medical Center Child Bereavement Program (http://www.nyppsychiatry.org/cli_ser_chi_ber.html)
provides educational and Crisis Counseling Services
to the FDNY families at Manhattan and Westchester office
locations, CSU sites, and the family home. Directed
by Dr. Cynthia Pfeffer, this program counsels all members
of the child’s family. For more information, please
call 914-997-5849.
