FIRE COMMISSIONER NIGRO TO PRESIDE AT GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR FDNY HIGH SCHOOL

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro will preside over a graduation ceremony for the seventh class of students from the FDNY High School for Fire and Life Safety in Brooklyn on Thursday, June 26th at 10 a.m. at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island.

The 59 graduating students have successfully completed a rigorous academic program that emphasizes leadership and strength as core values along with the academic and physical skills necessary for emergency responders.  The FDNY High School strives to introduce its students to future careers with the FDNY, as Firefighters, Paramedics, or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

From this year’s class, 45 students have been accepted to colleges and four will be serving their country in the United States Armed Forces.  Seventeen of the students will participate in the FDNY EMS Academy Summer EMT Certification Program, with six more scheduled to take part in the winter program later this year.

From the previous six FDNY High School classes, 18 have joined the Department with two graduates currently serving as Firefighters and 16 as EMTs. Thirty FDNY High School graduates are currently working for private ambulance services in the New York City area.
