Press Releases / 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 30, 2014

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will join the FDNY Foundation at the New York Hilton Midtown 1335 Avenue of the Americas, Manhattan on Wednesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. for their annual Humanitarian Awards dinner to honor those who have provided support to the New York City Fire Department over the course of their distinguished careers.
This year’s honoree is Scott Baxter, Vice President of VF Corporation, an $11 billion apparel and footwear powerhouse.  VF Corporation outfits all FDNY members’ uniforms and has worked closely with the Department to develop new fire prevention standards for apparel manufacturers around the world.

FDNY Foundation Service Recognition Awards will be presented to the FDNY Safety and Inspection Services Command for their role in reducing fire apparatus accidents and serious injuries to FDNY members, and to Dr. Reverend A.R. Bernard, C.E.O. of the Christian Cultural Center, for his role in supporting FDNY Fire Safety Education and Recruitment initiatives.

The FDNY Foundation is the official not-for-profit organization of the Fire Department, established in 1981 to promote Fire Safety and to fund professional development, training, and education programs for members. FDNY Foundation supports FDNY in protecting lives and property of those who work, live and visit New York City through its various programs that provide new equipment, training and support for thousands of firefighters and members of the department’s Emergency Medical Service.

The FDNY Foundation helps distribute more than 100,000 batteries, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors every year. And over the last four years, the FDNY Foundation has educated more than 2.4 million New Yorkers in fire safety and helped train more than 100,000 New Yorkers to perform bystander CPR.
