MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG AND FIRE COMMISSIONER SALVATORE J. CASSANO TO PRESIDE OVER GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR MOST DIVERSE CLASS OF PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTERS IN FDNY HISTORY

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will preside over a graduation ceremony for 242 Probationary Firefighters at the Christian Cultural Center, 120-20 Flatlands Avenue, Brooklyn on Thursday, December 5th at 11 a.m.

This new class is the most diverse in the FDNY’s history with 62 percent of its members identifying as minorities – 24 percent as Black and 36 percent as Hispanic. In the past 12 years, the Fire Department has doubled the number of firefighters from minority backgrounds serving in New York City.

These probationary firefighters will be assigned to firehouses throughout the city, where they will gain field experience under the guidance of senior firefighters and officers.
