MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG AND FIRE COMMISSIONER SALVATORE J. CASSANO HONOR MEMBERS OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE DIED IN THE PAST YEAR

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will honor 10 FDNY members who have died in the past year at the 106th Annual Memorial Service at the Firemen’s Monument, 100th Street and Riverside Drive on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. Those who will be honored tomorrow are:

Martin J. McHale

Firefighter

Charles L. Jones III

The Firemen’s Monument was built in 1912 and is located in Riverside Park in Manhattan.  It is the largest monument to a single group outside the military.  Inscribed on the monument are the words: “To the men of the Fire Department of the City of New York who died at the call of duty, soldiers in a war that never ends.  This memorial is dedicated by the people of a grateful City.”

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg; Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano; Chief of Department Edward S. Kilduff; Chief of Operations James E. Esposito; Chief of EMS Abdo Nahmod; and many FDNY Members and their families.
