FDNY ADDS 12 NAMES TO MEMORIAL WALL FOR DEATHS RELATED TO WORLD TRADE CENTER ILLNESSES

The FDNY will add the names of 12 FDNY members who died of illnesses related to their work at the World Trade Center to the World Trade Center Memorial Wall at FDNY Headquarters on Thursday, September 6, at 4 p.m.  The World Trade Memorial Wall was unveiled in September 2011 and lists the names of 64 FDNY members who died of illnesses related to their work at the World Trade Center site during and after the September 11th attacks.

“As time hastens to move us further from the events of September 11th, 2001 we remain steadfast in our dedication to the members whose unfaltering determination moved them to the World Trade Center time and time again, and has claimed them since,” said Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano.  “And as so many illnesses and cancers continue to claim so many active and retired members of the Department – Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics – who stood steadfastly at the World Trade Center that day and on the days, weeks and months afterwards, we stand still here, today in our dedication to them.”

The inscription on the Memorial Wall reads:
“DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO BRAVELY SERVED THIS DEPARTMENT PROTECTING LIFE AND PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK IN THE RESCUE AND RECOVERY EFFORT AT MANHATTAN BOX 5-5-8087 WORLD TRADE CENTER”

WHO:

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano, Chief of Department Edward Kilduff, Families of the 12 deceased FDNY members.

WHERE:

FDNY Headquarters – 9 Metrotech Center, Brooklyn, NY

WHEN:

Friday, September 6 – 4 p.m.
