FIRE COMMISSIONER CASSANO TO PRESIDE AT GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR 139 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS AND 6 PARAMEDICS

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will preside over a graduation ceremony for 139 Emergency Medical Technicians and 6 Paramedics at York College Performing Arts Center, 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, Queens, on Thursday, March 28, at 11 a.m. 

“FDNY EMTs and Paramedics are on the street, 24-hours a day, making a difference in the lives of millions of residents and visitors to New York City who need their help,” said Commissioner Cassano.  “As new FDNY members – and newly trained first responders – they have the responsibility of meeting the high standards of the Department and continuing its reputation of providing the best pre-hospital care found anywhere in the world.”

More than 53% of this new class of EMTs and Paramedics is minority, and 18% of graduates are women.  Fifteen different languages are spoken by this diverse group of graduates, including Bengali, Cantonese, French, Greek, Hindi, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Urdu.  All of the new graduates will be assigned to various units throughout the city.
