FIRE COMMISSIONER CASSANO TO PRESIDE AT CEREMONY PROMOTING 35 FDNY EMS MEMBERS
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will preside over a ceremony promoting 35 FDNY EMS members at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, at FDNY Headquarters. Chief Sophia Kwok will be promoted to the rank of Division Chief, 22 members will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and 12 Emergency Medical Technicians will be promoted to Paramedic.
"On Monday, October 29th, as Hurricane Sandy brought unprecedented storm damage and destruction to our city, the call volume to FDNY EMS reached a new record for 24-hour period with 5,681 calls," Commissioner Cassano said. "These newly promoted members were among the thousands of FDNY EMS members who responded to those calls - evacuating homebound patients and hospitals, treating patients injured from fires and storm related accidents, and placing their lives on the line to respond through flooded streets and extremely high winds. In their new roles, these members will continue the outstanding work and professionalism of FDNY EMS that New Yorkers expect and deserve."
