FDNY REMINDS NEW YORKERS TO CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN THEIR SMOKE DETECTORS WHEN THEY CHANGE THEIR CLOCKS THIS WEEKEND
The FDNY is reminding New Yorkers to check and change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks this weekend for the end of Daylight Saving Time.
"With large portions of our city experiencing power outages, and hundreds of homes damaged by fire, we are reminding all New Yorkers to please check to make sure they have a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector in their home this weekend, when they adjust their clocks for Daylight Saving Time," said Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano. "A working smoke and carbon monoxide detector is the best way to keep your family safe and alert you to a dangerous and potentially deadly situation in your home.
Throughout the weekend, at locations in all five boroughs, members of the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit will be distributing a limited number of batteries, along with fire safety information in ten different languages.
