STATEMENT FROM FIRE COMMISSIONER SALVATORE J. CASSANO ON ADDITION OF CANCER TO THE LIST OF WORLD TRADE CENTER-RELATED HEALTH CONDITIONS

"I applaud the decision which will now allow our Firefighters and EMS personnel to get the health coverage they justly deserve," said Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano.

Last September, the FDNY released a seven-year study that showed a 19% increase in cancer for firefighters exposed at the WTC, compared to their non-exposed colleagues. The study was reported in the medical journal, The Lancet.
