FDNY TO OFFER INFLUENZA VACCINE TO ALL FIRST RESPONDERS AS PART OF ANNUAL TERRORISM DRILL

The FDNY will hold the ninth annual BIOPOD terrorism drill tomorrow, Thurs., Nov. 10, during which all first responders will be offered the influenza vaccine. This is an annual terrorism drill simulating the need for vaccinating all FDNY members after a biological attack.

The exercise is done in response to the Presidential Policy Directive, which describes the nation's approach to preparing for threats and hazards that pose a national security risk.

To reach all the FDNY's first responders, there will be 15 points of distribution (PODs) located throughout the five boroughs.

BIOPOD is conducted by the FDNY Bureau of Health Services in conjunction with the FDNY Bureau of Operations and is part of the City's overall emergency response plan that combines the efforts of the Fire Department with other city agencies, including the Police Department, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Office of Emergency Management. It is part of the Department's ongoing initiative to plan for its response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive incidents.
