Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will cut the ribbon on a new state of the art FDNY firehouse for Marine Company 1, located at Pier 53, Bloomfield Street (West 12th Street) and the Hudson River on October 14, at 11 a.m. Marine Company 1 is the only waterside firehouse in Manhattan.

On September 11th, on January 15th 2009 with the emergency landing of U.S. Airways flight 1549, and on countless other occasions, Marine Company 1 has shown itself to be a ready to answer the call for any emergency that comes its way,” Commissioner Cassano said. “This new pier and firehouse for Marine 1 shows the Department’s continued dedication to protecting New Yorkers, the surrounding communities, and all those who visit New York City and use our waterways.”

The new 8,500 square foot quarters of Marine Company 1 is stands on a brand new pier constructed for the FDNY. Pier 53 has been built to handle the needs of Marine Company 1’s fireboat, the Three Forty Three, as well as the smaller vessels in the FDNY fleet. The new firehouse allows for storage of foam and scuba gear, as well as ample space for additional FDNY companies to respond to incidents as needed. Total construction of Pier 53 and the new firehouse cost over $19 million.
