FDNY FOUNDATION HOLDS BENEFIT PRODUCTION OF "THE GUYS"

To commemorate the Tenth Anniversary of September 11th, the FDNY Foundation is holding a special benefit production of the Anne Nelson play, “The Guys,” at the Museum of Jewish Heritage Theater on Thursday, September 8th, at 6 p.m. The play, written following the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001, tells the story of an FDNY Captain who lost eight firefighters from his firehouse and turns to a neighborhood author for help writing their eulogies.

A private performance will also take place on September 7th at the Museum of Jewish Heritage Theater for FDNY members and their families. The cost of both performances has been generously underwritten by Bank of America and Alcoa.

This special production stars Academy Award-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver, reprising her role as Joan, the author; and Tony Award-nominated Tom Wopat as FDNY Fire Captain, Nick.

“The Guys” originally debuted at the Flea Theater in December, 2001. Over the past ten years, this poignant and deeply moving play has been performed for audiences throughout the world and was developed into a feature film in 2002.

The FDNY Foundation is grateful to Bank of America and Alcoa for underwriting these commemorative performances. The FDNY Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of the New York City Fire Department. The funds raised assist the FDNY in its mission to prevent and respond to fires, medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, protecting the lives and property of residents and visitors in New York City. In addition, the FDNY Foundation funds programs to help meet the Department's training, equipment, and education needs.
