FIRE COMMISSIONER SALVATORE J. CASSANO PRESIDES AT GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR 85 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will preside at a graduation ceremony of 85 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12th at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island.
"Emergency Medical Technicians are the backbone of FDNY EMS," Commissioner Cassano said. "Our Emergency Medical Service responded to 1.2 million calls last year. These 85 EMTs will be joining the best and busiest Emergency Medical Service anywhere in the world and they will uphold the traditions of this department with dedication and pride."
Among the diverse group of graduates, 10 languages are spoken, including Spanish, Korean, Russian, Hebrew, Haitian Creole, Portuguese Amahric, Patwa, Cantonese and Sign language. One of the graduates, Andrew Verbitzki, served in the United States Air Force in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. All of the members will be assigned to various EMS stations throughout the city.
