Press Releases / 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 13, 2011

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will join the FDNY Foundation on Thursday, April 14 at 6 p.m. at the New York Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, for their annual Humanitarian Awards dinner to honor those who have provided overwhelming support to the New York City Fire Department over the course of their distinguished careers.

Established in 1981, the FDNY Foundation is the official non-profit organization of the Department that helps bring the vital message of fire safety and prevention to all New Yorkers. It also supports the life-saving work of the FDNY through various programs that provide new equipment, training and support for thousands of firefighters and members of the department’s Emergency Medical Service.

This year’s honorees are Dave Barger, President and CEO of JetBlue Airways, and Martin E. Franklin, Chairman and CEO of Jarden Corporation.  The evening will also honor members of our military for their service to our nation and feature a performance by country music star Lee Greenwood.  CNBC anchor Maria Bartiromo will serve as Master of Ceremonies.  Brian Williams, Anchor and Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, and retired U.S. Army Col. Jack Jacobs, a Medal of Honor recipient, will also be featured in the evening’s program.

The FDNY Foundation’s work includes:

  • Distributing more than 8,000 smoke alarms and 100,000 batteries in the past year
  • Educating 1.5 million New Yorkers in fire safety education over the past three years
  • Helping the department train 100,000 New Yorkers in CPR
