FDNY BRAVEST BOXERS DONATE $7,500 TO HELP BUILD A HOME
FOR ARMY SPECIALIST BRENDAN MARROCCO

The FDNY Bravest Boxing team and Building Homes for Heroes will present a check for $7,500 to the family of Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco on Monday, February 14, at 11 a.m. at FDNY Headquarters.  This donation is from money raised at the FDNY’s victory over the NYPD boxing team at the 28th Annual Battle of Badges at Madison Square Garden this past October.

The FDNY Bravest Boxing Team joined forces with two charities, Building Homes for Heroes and the Stephen Siller Children's Foundation, to help build a home for a true American hero, Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco.  Army Specialist Marrocco was injured on April 12, 2009 while returning to base in Iraq after a night mission when his vehicle sustained a direct hit by an explosive fired projectile.  He lost all four of his limbs in the attack and is the only soldier to do so in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The FDNY Boxing team competes in several amateur boxing matches each year, including the World Police and Fire Games, which will be held in New York City in 2011.  The team has earned nearly $100,000 for various charities over the years, including the Wounded Warriors Project and American Red Cross-Haiti Relief Fund.

Donations are still being accepted to help build a home for Brendan at www.buildinghomesforheroes.org.
