COMMISSIONER CASSANO WELCOMES NEW YORK METS FOR
TRAINING AT FDNY FIRE ACADEMY

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will welcome New York Mets C.O.O. Jeff Wilpon and pitchers Mike Pelfrey, R.A. Dickey, Bobby Parnell and Dillon Gee on Thursday January 20 at 8:45 a.m. at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island.  The Mets players and Jeff Wilpon will be going through several FDNY training exercises, including extinguishing a fire in the hi-rise simulator.

Pitchers Bobby Parnell and Dillon Gee are sons of firefighters from other parts of the country.  Robert Parnell Sr. is the Fire Chief of the Salisbury, North Carolina Fire Department and will be in attendance.  Dillon’s father, Kevin Gee, works for the Fort Worth, Texas Fire Department.

This event is the latest example of the strong relationship between the FDNY and the New York Mets.  Each year since September 11th, 2001, the New York Mets have marked the week of the anniversary by stopping at a New York City firehouse to meet and thank FDNY members.
