FIRE COMMISSIONER SALVATORE J. CASSANO HOLDS HOLIDAY FIRE SAFETY DEMONSTRATION
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano, along with members of the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit, will hold a holiday fire safety demonstration, including a live controlled fire of an apartment decorated for the holidays, on Monday, December 6, at 1 p.m. at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island.
"The holidays are especially busy time for all of us, but no one should lose sight of keeping their home and their family fire safe this time of year," said Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano. "Don't let a fire ruin your holidays."
Members of the Fire Safety Education Unit will show many of the common fire risks associated with the holiday season inside of a mock apartment. Following the presentation there will be a controlled burn of a Christmas tree and other items inside the apartment. Members of the media will have access to obtain video and stills of the fire, as well as the aftermath of the burned out apartment. All media attending are asked to not wear heels or shoes that may be easily damaged.
Fire Safety Information for the holidays, and year round, is available on www.nyc.gov/fdny and www.fdnyfiresmart.org.
