FIRE COMMISSIONER NICHOLAS SCOPPETTA PRESIDES AT
GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR 24 NEW PARAMEDICS

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will preside at a graduation ceremony for 24 paramedics tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the FDNY training academy on Randall’s Island.  All of the members have undergone rigorous training programs at the Emergency Medical Service Academy and will be assigned to various EMS stations throughout the city.

This new paramedic class consists of FDNY Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who are being promoted to the rank of paramedic and other EMTs from local hospitals and as far away as Australia who are joining the FDNY for the first time.  Several of the new paramedics speak multiple languages, including Russian, Mandarin, French, Sintana, Cantonese and Creole.  Two of the graduates are veterans of the U.S. military, having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Macedonia and Bosnia.
