FDNY CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT SALVATORE CASSANO AND FORMER CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT DANIEL NIGRO AWARDED FRENCH LEGION OF HONOR
FDNY Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano and retired former Chief of Department Daniel Nigro will be presented with France’s highest award, the Legion of Honor. The ceremony will take place tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the French Consulate, 934 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan.
Chief Cassano was named Chief of Department on June 17, 2006 and has served the FDNY for nearly 40 years. Chief Nigro was named Chief of Department on September 12, 2001 and retired from the department in September of 2002 after serving the FDNY for 32 years.
The Legion of Honor has been previously awarded to three members of the department. Chief of Department Peter Ganci, First Deputy Commissioner William Feehan and Father Mychal Judge received this honor posthumously in February of 2002 after their deaths in the line of duty on September 11th.
