ASTRONAUT MICHAEL J. MASSIMINO PRESENTS AMERICAN FLAG FLOWN ON SPACE SHUTTLE ATLANTIS TO NEW YORK CITY FIRE MUSEUM

Astronaut Michael J. Massimino will present an American flag flown on NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis to FDNY Chief of Department Salavatore Cassano at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the NYC Fire Museum, 278 Spring Street.  On his latest shuttle mission in May to perform repairs on the Hubble Space Telescope, Massimino flew the flag to honor all those lost in the tragic events of September 11th.  Massimino is a member of the FDNY family as well.  His father, Mario Massimino, was a Chief Inspector for the Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The NYC Fire Museum is the official museum of the FDNY and houses a renowned collection of fire-related art and artifacts from the 18th century to the present.  The NYC Fire Museum also contains the first permanent memorial to the 343 firefighters who were killed on September 11th.  The donated flag will be displayed in the 9/11 room of the museum.
