FIRE COMMISSIONER SCOPPETTA TO PRESIDE AT CEREMONY FOR FDNY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano, Principal James Anderson and other FDNY officials will preside at a graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the FDNY Academy on Randall’s Island for students from the FDNY High School for Fire and Life Safety in Brooklyn, NY.

The 57 graduating students are the school’s second graduating class.  The students have successfully completed a rigorous academic program that emphasizes core values of leadership and strength, in addition to the academic and physical skills necessary for emergency responders. The school strives to introduce its students to future careers with the FDNY, either as firefighters, paramedics or emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Five of the students graduating tomorrow have passed the EMS exam and have been admitted into the EMT Trainee Program.  Four students are scheduled to take the EMS exam in December.

Eighty percent of this year’s graduating class will go on to college.
