FDNY TO CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY
OF LADDER COMPANY 39
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will join the officers and members of Ladder Company 39 in their quarters at 755 East 233rd St., Bronx at 10 a.m. Friday, as they celebrate 100 years of dedicated service to the community.
During the ceremony, a plaque will be dedicated to honor a member of the firehouse who died of injuries suffered in the line of duty. Lt. Edmund A. Mc Nulty was injured fighting an all-hands fire in a freight car at the New York Central Railroad Yard on April 9, 1959. He succumbed to his injuries and died nine years later on April 17, 1968.
Two current firefighters from Ladder Company 39 are members of the military. One who serves in the U.S. Air Force recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq and the other is currently serving there with the U.S. Army.
Ladder Company 39 began sharing quarters with Engine Company 63 in June 2006.
