STATEMENT FROM COMMISSIONER SCOPPETTA ON TODAY’S VERDICT

“The details of this case brought to light the grave dangers of illegally subdivided apartments or houses and the threat they pose to residents as well as firefighters. We thank Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson for taking on this important case and would also like to acknowledge the contributions of FDNY Fire Marshals, who investigated this incident and worked closely with prosecutors. We hope today’s verdict offers some comfort to the families of Lieutenant Curtis Meyran and Firefighter John Bellew as well as all of their colleagues and friends at the FDNY.”
