FOUR FIREHOUSES GET EXTREME MAKEOVERS AS PART OF PILOT PROJECT TO ESTABLISH ‘READY ROOMS’ WHERE FIREFIGHTERS CAN RECHARGE BETWEEN CALLS

Commissioner Scoppetta will visit one of four recently refurbished “ready rooms” at firehouses in Manhattan at 1 p.m. today during a trip to Engine 47, 502 W. 113th St.  With help from various donors and designer and FDNY volunteer Fran Moss, renovations have been completed at Engine 47 and are well underway at Ladder 3 in the East Village; Engine 54/Ladder 4 in Hell’s Kitchen; and Engine 24/Ladder 5 near Tribeca. Engine 47 received new furniture and other furnishings along with a newly-exposed brick wall, following work by the members and supervised by Moss.

“All of our members really deserve an inviting, comfortable place where they can relax and recharge after the hard work they do every day,” Commissioner Scoppetta said. “With help from Fran Moss, some very generous donors and the hard work of our members, they really have created a beautiful space here and at three other firehouses across the city.”

The pilot program could now expand to include other houses in more boroughs. Donors include The Rudin Foundation, The Anthony E. Meyer Foundation, Patrick McMullan and Peter and Alison Baumann. The project also benefited from in-kind donations from Sony, Home Depot and BoConcept Furniture, among others.
