FIRE COMMISSIONER SCOPPETTA TO PRESIDE AT
GRADUATION CEREMONY
FOR 78 MEMBERS OF THE
FDNY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will preside at a graduation ceremony tomorrow for 78 members of the FDNY Emergency Medical Service which includes 66 emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and 12 paramedics.
Among the graduates, more than 16 languages are spoken, including Albanian, Arabic, Creole, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Lao, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Thai.
Seven of the graduates are veterans of the armed forces, including three who served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.
The graduates completed intense 8 1/2-week training programs at the EMS Academy at Fort Totten in Queens and now will be assigned to various EMS stations throughout the City.
