FDNY FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION UNIT TO DISTRIBUTE 10,000
BATTERIES AT THE ISLAMIC FALAH MOSQUE IN THE BRONX

The FDNY’s Fire Safety Education Unit will distribute 10,000 free batteries at the Islamic Falah of America Mosque in the Bronx tomorrow to promote fire safety awareness among local residents and encourage them to make sure their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly as this winter season approaches.

This effort is part of the Department’s annual “Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries” campaign and comes eight months after a nearby fire in the Bronx at 1022 Woodycrest Avenue killed one adult and nine children. Following the tragic fire, the FDNY and its non-profit arm, the FDNY Foundation, launched Operation Fresh Battery where 145,000 batteries were distributed across the City. It was the largest giveaway of smoke-alarm batteries in the City’s history.

Twice a year before Daylight Savings Time, the Fire Safety Education Unit distributes thousands of free batteries across the City to encourage New Yorkers to change batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
