FDNY REMINDS NEW YORKERS TO CHANGE THEIR SMOKE ALARM
BATTERIES WHEN THEY CHANGE THEIR CLOCKS THIS WEEKEND
The Fire Safety Education Unit will be on hand at the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer Train Station, the Ridgewood Memorial Triangle Train Station and the Train Station at Ditmas Boulevard and 31st Street tomorrow to remind New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks back to Eastern Standard Time this Sunday.
The FDNY and the FDNY Foundation organized the event as part of the Fire Department’s annual “Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery” campaign. The FDNY Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports major FDNY initiatives including training, equipment and education.
Throughout this week, FDNY personnel will be distributing batteries for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as some helpful hints on how to stay safe. Fire prevention experts all agree that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors save lives. However, they must be working properly and inspected regularly. It is one of the simplest ways to protect you and your family from the potential dangers of fire.
