Fire Commissioner Scoppetta Presides
at 13th Annual FDNY EMS Second Chance Brunch

The New York City Fire Department will hold its 13th Annual Second Chance Brunch tomorrow at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island . This event will reunite 13 survivors of cardiac arrest with the FDNY paramedics, emergency medical technicians, firefighters and others who helped to save their lives.

More than 350,000 people suffer cardiac arrest each year. Research has shown that early defibrillation coupled with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within the first few minutes after sudden cardiac arrest can greatly increase a victim’s chance of survival.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Chief of Department Salvatore J. Cassano, Chief of Fire Operations Patrick McNally, Chief of EMS Command John Peruggia, many other FDNY officials and cardiac arrest survivors and their families
