FDNY AND ASSEMBLYMAN LOU TOBACCO
SUPPORT NEW ARSON BILL
Chief Fire Marshal Louis Garcia and FDNY officials will join Assemblyman Lou Tobacco (R-SI) in Staten Island tomorrow at the quarters of Engine Company 167 in support of a bill that will amend state arson laws. The new arson bill - which proposes to broaden the definition of first-degree arson in the penal law - will call for tougher penalties for any offender who uses fire and/or explosives to damage a building or motor vehicle. The bill also classifies chemically or mechanically ignited devices, natural gas or flammable accelerants used in setting fires as “incendiary devices.”
